International exhibition of caricatures
OSKARfest is one of 5 (five) international exhibitions of caricatures held in Croatia (Zagreb 2x, Solin, Sisak, Osor), while others are commemorative and national. The exhibition annually attracts about 10,000 visitors, both national and international. The exhibition is open to everyone to take part by voting for the best work, (the biggest jury in the world!) and receive a symbolic prize – a postcard, a caricature or another fun souvenir reminding them of Osor, Cres, Lošinj and Kvarner, but also the Adriatic and Croatia. The art form of caricature is accessible to everyone, regardless of their age, sex, race, nationality or language, as caricatures are textless and they can be on a variety of themes appropriate for a tourism destination.
Programme evaluation criteria:
- international character (300+ participants, 10,000+ visitors, 2,000+ jury members)
- open to all everyone (regardless of their sex, age, religion, race, nationality, language, etc.)
- programme continuity (11 years)
- programme dates (season/postseason): June, July, August, September, November, daily)
- free entry for visitors
- interactive character (voting), symbolic prize
OSKARfest je has become a must-see event and an original tourism product of Osor.
OSKARfest, an international exhibition of caricatures, was first presented in 2008 by academic graphic painter and caricaturist Dragutin Dado Kovačević. It has been taking place for 9 consecutive years in the Community Centre in Osor, for years a summer residence of Oto Reisinger and Alojz Ševčik, legends of Croatian caricature. In 2017 OSKARfest was not held for a variety of reasons, but this year if you are spending your summer holiday on Cres and Lošinj or in the neighbourhood in Istria, Kvarner, in Zadar or nearby, make sure to stop by and vote for the best caricature!
