Sea Turtle Rescue Centre

On the 19th July 2013, the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre was opened in the recreational area of the Hotel Vespera Hotel in Sunčana Bay in Mali Lošinj.

This is a place where injured and ill animals can receive professional help and care. The rescue centre was opened by the Blue World Institute of Marine Research and Conversation from Veli Lošinj.

The centre provides facilities including an operating room, an isolation pool and longer-term environmentally controlled recovery pools for the care of ill or injured animals. The centre also offers education to visitors about sea turtles, their importance for the environment, endangerment, and how we can help them. The Sea Turtle Rescue Centre was constructed as part of the ”Network for the Conservation of Cetaceans and Sea Turtles in the Adriatic (NETCET)” project funded by the European Union Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) Adriatic Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) Programme, and it will join the network of rescue centres for conservation of sea turtles in the Adriatic Sea.

Although sea turtles have outlived dinosaurs and they have perfect hydrodynamically adapted bodies, they are one of the most endangered animals on Earth.

If you want to know more about what we do, come visit us in Veli and Mali Lošinj or visit our website www.plavi-svijet.org.
