This impressive structure made of almonds and sugar stands 2.73 meters tall, consists of 14 tiers, and weighs 57.5 kilograms. The official Guinness World Records adjudicator, Paulina Sapinska, confirmed the record and officially entered the Lošinj krokant into the global record books.
The creation of the celebratory Lošinj krokant was led by Petar Goleš, a pastry chef from Lošinj (Patisserie Moby Dick), with the help of his team. After several days of preparation involving more than two thousand individual pieces and nearly 200 hours of work, the final construction of the krokant in the open air lasted nearly eight hours and was watched throughout the day by thousands of locals and tourists. The celebration culminated in the evening with the official height measurement, the record announcement, and a traditional sabre-breaking ceremony – according to an old Lošinj custom, a celebratory krokant is broken for good luck and prosperity.
"I am extremely happy to have had the opportunity and honor to build the largest Lošinj krokant ever, with my own hands and with the help of my colleagues from our family patisserie. Along with sugar and almonds, each tier is filled with hard work and love, just as generations of Lošinj residents have poured their efforts and care into decades of Lošinj tourism – including my own family. Once again, Lošinj has shown unity and love for its heritage and tradition, and since we shattered our celebratory krokant into a million pieces and ate every last bit, I have no doubt that prosperity and wellbeing lie ahead for the island of Lošinj," said Petar Goleš, master pastry chef from Patisserie Moby Dick.
"There’s no better way to mark 140 years of tourism on Lošinj than by setting a world record – and doing so with the Lošinj krokant, a symbol of our maritime and cultural heritage. This project is not only a gastronomic feat but also a powerful message of unity, pride, and identity for our island. By combining tradition with innovation – both literally and symbolically – we have reached new heights," said Dalibor Cvitković, Director of the Mali Lošinj Tourist Board, expressing gratitude to everyone who participated and supported the event. "We thank all those who took part in this unique project, with special thanks to Patisserie Moby Dick and master chef Petar Goleš for their dedicated work and vision, and to Katja Žic Antunović for her support in bringing it all together. The Lošinj krokant is now officially recorded in the Guinness Book of Records – yet another reason for the Island of Vitality to be proud!"
This sweet spectacle brought together many locals and visitors in celebration of island tradition, and the evening concluded with a concert by the legendary band Parni Valjak.
