The Josip Kašman Days festival is dedicated to the most important Croatian baritone of all time, born on Mali Lošinj - Josip Kašman - a baritone who sang at the opening night of the famous Metropolitan Opera in New York and who was hailed all over the world as il principe dei baritoni - the prince of the baritone.
"Opera under the starry sky of Lošinj - In memory of Kašman" - a unique musical event - under the clear sky of Lošinj, famous Croatian opera singers will perform arias and excerpts from the operas that made Josip Kašman famous all over the world - from Milan's La Scala, where after his at the first performance he was declared the king of baritone and the most important baritone of his time until the Metropolitan Opera in New York, at the very opening of which he sang while the audience cheered him "il principe dei baritoni" - the prince of the baritone. In 2025 we have an 100th anniversary of Kašman’s death.
The program is designed around the character of Josip Kašman as the central soloist (at the concert it will be baritone Leon Košavić), through which all the great works of opera literature that marked Josip Kašman's career are covered, as well as opera titles that Kašman himself did not perform, but are part of the iron repertoire of every eminent theater today. In excerpts from the aforementioned titles, Košavić will be joined in duets, tercets and quartets by the most successful soprano of the younger generation, Darija Auguštan, wonderful mezzosoprano Sofija Petrović, and great tenor Martin Sušnik. For the first time in Mali Lošinj, we will be able to listen Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra under the batton of Darijan Ivezić and the narrator of this spectacle will be the originator of this project and the artistic and executive director of the festival, Danijel Gašparović.
