MALI LOŠINJ AMONG TOP 100 SUSTAINABLE DESTINATIONS OF THE WORLD

At the eighth edition of the international conference Global Green Destinations Days, which brings together leading sustainability experts in government, business and academic circles in Athens on 27 September 2022, Lošinj was awarded a silver award - Green Destinations Silver Status for successful sustainable management in accordance with international standards defined by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
This recognition is a significant step forward in the efforts to achieve, prove and independently verify and confirm full compliance, thus enabling the award of the certificates.
In addition to good measurement results, Lošinj secured its place among the TOP 100 green destinations in the world with a sustainable story, i.e. a true story about sustainable and responsible tourism. It is about the Via Apsyrtides project - a system of pedestrian bypasses that connect and present the natural and cultural attractions of the islands, at the center of which is a 150 km long transversal path that stretches from the northernmost point of the island of Cres to the southernmost point of the island of Ilovik.

"Green Destinations Award" is a program of certification of tourist destinations based on the assessment of compliance with criteria related to environmental preservation, social and economic situation and cultural aspects, with the aim of promoting sustainable tourist destinations at the international level. In the destination certification process, a desk audit was conducted, after which the overall result was generated from the obtained grades in the following areas: Destination Management, Nature and Landscape, Environment and Climate, Culture and Tradition, Quality of Life, Business and Communication, and the highest rating went to Culture and Tradition.
