The Nerezine Open Spearfishing Championship is a sporting and social event held in Nerezine with the aim of promoting sport fishing, strengthening interaction between the local community and its visitors, and enhancing international sports cooperation. The competition includes the club championship of ŠD “Škarpina” as well as the National Spearfishing Championship of the Republic of Slovenia, giving the event an international character.
The competitive part of the program takes place around the island of Lošinj, in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations related to spearfishing and marine protection. Participants compete in freediving spearfishing, with an emphasis on sportsmanship, safety, and responsible behavior towards the marine environment.
At the conclusion of the competition, a traditional fishermen’s festival is organized in the center of Nerezine, open to competitors, local residents, and visitors. As part of the festival, the caught fish is prepared in the traditional way and shared with participants and guests, accompanied by socializing and an entertainment program.
The fishermen’s festival represents the final and social part of the event and further contributes to the attractiveness of the occasion.
