Location: Town Hall, Trg Studenac (above the post office), Nerezine
Exhibition opening: 4 August 2023, 20:00
Duration: 4 August – 16 September 2023
Visiting hours: every day from 19:30 to 21:30
The exhibition dedicated to the women of Nerezine, St. Jakov, and nearby hamlets is inspired by the text Ruke moje matere (Hands of My Mother) by Julijan Sokolić and the family stories from the mother's side of the exhibition's author, Irena Dlaka. It covers the period from the mid-19th century to the 1960s, from the first travel and chronicle records about women from Nerezine to the advent of tourism and the introduction of modern ways of life. Through photographs, documents, and personal belongings, the exhibition tells the story of generations of women who experienced the greatest changes in the recent history of this region. Hardworking, caring, and determined, eager for knowledge and progress, free to choose with whom and how they would live, always thinking of what is best for their families - these were the women from Nerezine – bižinone (great-grandmothers), none (grandmothers) and mothers.
The exhibition opening will take place on Friday, 4 August 2023, at 20:00 at the Hall premises. It will remain open until 16 September 2023, and can be visited daily from 19:30 to 21:30.
