This impressive structure, made of almonds and sugar, stood 2.73 meters high, featured 14 layers, and weighed 57.5 kilograms.
The commemorative Lošinj almond brittle was crafted by a team under the leadership of Petar Goleš, a local pastry chef (Moby Dick Gelateria). After days of preparation, more than two thousand individual pieces and almost 200 working hours, the actual construction of the croccante took nearly eight hours in the open air, and was closely followed by thousands of locals and visitors throughout the day. The celebration reached its peak in the evening with the official height measurement of the croccante, the announcement of the record, and the traditional ceremonial breaking of the almond brittle with a sabre – following an old Lošinj custom, the festive croccante is shattered to bring luck and prosperity to the celebrants.
