LOŠINJ – AN ISLAND THAT CONNECTS GENERATIONS

The Tourist Board of Mali Lošinj proudly highlights the loyalty of its guests for whom Lošinj has been the destination of choice as a place of relaxation and friendship for decades. Three families from Germany give an account of their special connection with our island, built through treatment, friendship, and unforgettable experiences.
DANIELA DREXL – 50 YEARS OF LOYALTY TO LOŠINJ
Daniela Drexl has been visiting Lošinj for half a century now. She first visited the island as a child due to health problems, namely bronchitis. The treatment provided by Dr. Vukelić in Veli Lošinj helped her fully recover. Since then, she has been visiting the island regularly, first with her parents, and now with her children. She is a dear guest of Luce Bolješić, a private accommodation provider.

Lošinj is like a second home to me, I feel like part of the family, says Daniela. What brings her particular joy are her memories of the Children's Hospital in Veli Lošinj and walks with her children. These days, she is experiencing the island through various attractions, such as the Fragrant Garden and the Čikat Bay. Her daughter, who is particularly fond of animals, has helped rescue a sea turtle, which the sanctuary later named Ema – after her.

BRIGITE AND ROBERT HIRSCHMANN – 60 VISITS TO LOŠINJ
Brigite and Robert Hirschmann from Nuremberg have been visiting Lošinj for 30 years now, and twice a year at that. They marked their 60th visit this year. They first started coming with their children, who were small at the time, and now the third generation of their family has joined them as well.

Lošinj is our second home, say the guests, who have since mastered the Croatian language. They have their own boat named San (Dream), moored at the Lošinj marina, because – as they say – they always dreamed of having a boat right here on Lošinj.

They share not only the accommodation with their landlady, Ankica Kučar, but also a long-time friendship – from looking after the house to going to the olive orchard or to the sheep together. People here are different, kinder. We feel welcome on Lošinj, said the Hirschmanns.

ERIKA URSULA AND PAUL WOLFGANG SCHUSTER – 35 YEARS OF TRADITION
Married couple Erika Ursula and Paul Wolfgang Schuster have been visiting Lošinj regularly for 35 years, mostly in September, when they stay on the island for a month. They first visited Lošinj during the Homeland War, when they settled in Rovenska and immediately became friends with Marija Dakić, a nurse from the Children’s Hospital in Veli Lošinj.

Today, they are regular guests of Barbara Dakić, a private accommodation provider, and they enjoy walks to Sveti Ivan, Krivica, and Rovenska. They know the locals by their names – from shopkeepers to food facility owners. Even when they are not on the island, they like to watch the cam in Veli Lošinj and recognise familiar faces, smiling with gladness.

GABRIJELA AND JOŽEF DUH – 40 YEARS WITH LOŠINJ
Married couple Gabrijela and Jožef Duh from Ljubljana have been visiting Lošinj loyally with their daughter for about 40 years now. Their first visits are associated with Camp Čikat, where they would spend their summers in tents and trailers. Today, they come two to three times a year as guests of the Vitković family.

We open and close the season, they say, remembering their first visits. Their favourite place is none other than Čikat, and they see the special charm of summer vacations on Lošinj in active vacation. As soon as they arrive, they park their car and don’t use it at all for two weeks – they walk up to 11 kilometres every day.

They particularly like September, when the atmosphere on the island is calmer, with no crowds in the town or on the beaches. Highlighting its unique climate, they have recommended Lošinj to numerous friends over the years, many of whom have become regular visitors to our island.
