October: Myrtle, Strawberry Tree & Pomegranate

MYRTLE (lat. Myrtus communis L.)
An aromatic plant of the genus Myrtus. It symbolizes love. In Greek mythology it was held sacred to Aphrodite. U rimskoj mitologiji posvećena je Veneri. Zimzelena je i grmolika biljka, a može narasti do 5 m visine. Krase ju bijeli cvjetovi i sitni plavi plodovi. Mirta kao samonikla biljka raste samo po toplim i sunčanim obalnim područjima, jer je osjetljiva na hladnoću.

THE STRAWBERRY TREE (lat. Arbutus unedo L.)
Zimzeleni grm ili maleno drvo - raste kao ukras makije. Plodovi planike nazivaju se maginj. Planika može rasti kao grm ili maleno drvo koje može narasti i do 10 m visine. Listovi podsjećaju na listove lovora. Zelenkastobijeli cvjetovi razvijaju se u bogatim i lijepim grozdastim cvatovima. Plodovi su narančastocrveni i okrugli. Na površini su neravni i posuti gusto smještenim bradavicama.

POMEGRANATE (lat. Punica granatum L.)
A shrub or small tree growing 2-4 m tall. Branches are long and covered in thorns, with at first reddish and then gray and thin bark that peels in threads. Its flowers are very beautiful, bright red (rarely white). The ripe fruit, pomegranate, can be 10 cm in diameter, yellow, brown or reddish and has a "crown". Its skin is thick and inside arils are located in “compartments” divided by white membranes. Arils are transparent, irregularly shaped, red and very juicy.
