The Lošinj Museum invites all citizens and lovers of fine music to a special performance at the Apoksiomen Museum, featuring the award-winning jazz musician Darko Jurković Charlie from Rijeka. With his charisma and unique musical expression, Charlie will present his solo evening program. He is the only multi-guitarist from this region performing a one-of-a-kind show.
Guitarist Darko Jurković Charlie is renowned for his unique “two hands tapping” technique, where both hands are used on the guitar neck to produce sound, sometimes playing two guitars simultaneously, captivating and astonishing audiences.
Charlie is one of the most awarded jazz guitarists in Croatia. He has won the Porin Award multiple times (2005, 2016, and 2025) for Best Jazz Performance, as well as the Status Award, being named Best Jazz Guitarist nine times. He also received the HDS Miroslav Sedak Benčić Annual Award in 2022 for his original jazz compositions on the album Trio, Solo, Duo.
His career is marked by collaborations with numerous top domestic and international musicians. Charlie was a longtime member of the Small Big Band Europlane Orchestra, recording three albums, including the last one with the legendary American saxophonist Herb Geller. He also performed for ten years with a Czech trio (with bassist František Uhlíř and drummer Jaromír Helešic) touring across Europe.
He was part of Rijeka’s Quartet Sensitive, primarily performing Brazilian bossa nova, and in recent years, Charlie has expanded beyond jazz, participating in various festivals. For example, in 2024 he arranged the song Noć by Nevia Rigutto, which won Best Song at MIK and also earned him the Radio Istra Award for the arrangement. Additionally, at the Canzonette Fiumane Festival, Tina Vukov performed his composition I me manca (lyrics by Laura Marchig), winning Best Interpretation.
